Children and Spanish are the perfect combination for language learning success!
Check out (just a few of) the reasons we believe students at WE
benefit from learning Spanish:
- Spanish is ranked as a Category 1 language by the Foreign Service Institute, which means it's one of the easiest foreign languages for English-speakers to learn. Why? Spanish and English are closely related, and many words sound similar in both languages. We even share some "borrowed" words!
- Spanish is also related to other Latin-based languages, such as French, Portuguese, and Italian. Knowing Spanish will help students understand the roots and meanings of words they'll encounter in future coursework.
- Spanish is our country's most rapidly growing language, with over 40 million native speakers currently living in the US.
- Learning a foreign language builds empathy. It helps kids see the struggle that others feel while assimilating to new surroundings, and it teaches them that people who speak a different language from them aren't so different after all.
Students at WE receive 30 minutes of Spanish instruction per week. We believe children learn best by doing; therefore, visitors to our Spanish room will observe students fully engaged in the content, whether singing, dancing, playing games, or working in peer groups to produce language. Our classes are full immersion with a goal of 90-95% target language instruction.
